LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said China has helped Pakistan starting its journey of progress and prosperity, which will be completed at any cost.

“Pak-China friendship is higher than Himalayas, deeper than ocean, sweeter than honey and stronger than steel,” the CM said while addressing a special ceremony to celebrate completion of 65 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China. The function was arranged by Chinese Consulate at Alhamra Hall yesterday.

The CM said it was an honor for him to attend the ceremony, adding that Pak-China friendship is unprecedented in the history. “The greatest gift of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) reflects the confidence of Chinese leadership in the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, and the projects are an example of splendid friendship between Pakistan and China.”

“Let us forward the Chinese president’s vision of ‘One Belt One Road’,” the CM said on the occasion, and hoped the CPEC projects will usher in a new era of progress and prosperity.

Chinese Consul General Yu Boren said that there are strong economic relations between Pakistan and China and Pak-China friendship has stood the test of time. He said that Pakistan-China relations are touching new heights.

Provincial Ministers, Khawaja Ahmed Hasaan and prominent personalities of different walks of life were present on the occasion.

Separately, while talking to elected representatives of his party, Shehbaz Sharif said the politics of chaos and anarchy would only disserve the country as such those resorting to this negative politics should mend their ways.

“The PML-N is committed to public service mission, and it will continue to outcome every hurdle in our way,” the CM said, adding that every penny was being spent on progress and prosperity of the masses.

According to him, the PML-N government has introduced a culture of transparency in the development projects whereof it has saved national resources to the tune of billions of rupees without compromising on the quality and high standard of the projects. “The PML-N government is forwarding the programme of progress and prosperity of the country by considering it as a mission.”

Shehbaz Sharif also took notice of a gruesome incident in which a blind woman was gang-raped in Layyah district of Punjab on Friday.

Ordering immediate arrest of the culprits, the CM summoned report from District Police Officer (DPO) as early as possible.

Shehbaz directed that justice be provided to the affected woman at any cost. He also pledged support with the victim and her family.

The victim, in her 30s, was gang-raped on the pretext of giving compensation money in Layyah. She was abandoned at a deserted location. Locals of the area gathered upon hearing her cries and took her to Kot Sultan police station.

Previously, the woman had survived suffered an acid attack some 12 years ago due to which she lost her sight and also left her face burnt. Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
