LAHORE - Veteran journalist, former federal minister and Pakistan Movement worker Mustafa Sadiq was laid to rest at the Miani Sahib graveyard. He passed away Monday and his funeral prayers were offered here at Takoni Ground, Samanabad. Maulana Fazalur Rahim led the funeral prayers, which were attended by a large number of senior journalists and prominent personalities, including former president Rafique Tarrar, TheNation Editor-in-Chief Majid Nizami, Mujeebur Rehman Shami, Qazi Jamil Athar, Altaf Hassan Qureshi, Dr Farid Ahmad Paracha, Dr Safdar Mehmood, Saeed Asi and Ataur Rahman. President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif, PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Pervaiz Elahi and others leaders condoled the death of the veteran journalist. In their separate messages they expressed deep grief and sorrow and prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss with fortitude. In a condolence message, CPNE President Jamil Athar, Senior VP Qazi Asad Abid, Secretary General Ilyas Shakir and other office-bearers paid glowing tributes to the renowned journalist, saying the deceased played very active part in journalism and struggled for freedom of the press and right to free expression. Meanwhile, people from different walks of life, including intellectuals, writers, senior journalists, politicians and lawyers, have condoled the death of late Mustafa Sadiq.
