LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said that poverty and unemployment can be eliminated by improving livestock sector and government is implementing a comprehensive strategy for this purpose. He said that such initiatives are being taken for the improvement of this sector, says a press release. He said that state of the art slaughter house is in the final stages of completion in Shahpur Kanjran which will be inaugurated soon. He was presiding over a meeting held to review the initiatives taken for the improvement of livestock and dairy development at Civil Secretariat, here today. Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development gave a detailed briefing regarding progress of various projects and initiatives taken for the improvement of livestock. Addressing the meeting, Mian Shahbaz Sharif said that vast opportunities are available for the development of livestock sector in Punjab. He said that government is taking solid steps for improvement of this sector and those countries having expertise in this sector have also been consulted in this regard. While reviewing the progress of various projects, he directed that the pace of work should be accelerated on these projects and a comprehensive plan should be formulated for the promotion of economic activities for the next five years with regard to this sector. He said that with the establishment of modern slaughter house in Shahpur Kanjran, not only Halal meat would be exported but huge foreign exchange would also be earned. The meeting took important decisions for the development of livestock sector. Earlier, while giving briefing, Secretary Livestock said that the improvement of livestock sector is aimed at elimination of poverty and unemployment and a comprehensive programme is being implemented for this purpose. He said that Malaysia, China, Thailand and Australia have also been consulted for the uplift of livestock and dairy development sector. Chairman Punjab Livestock Board also informed about various projects. Chairman Planning and Development, Secretary Finance, Member Colonies, Chief Executive Officer Lahore Meat Company and concerned officers attended the meeting.
