LAHORE - Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Kh Salman Rafiq has said that a committee has been constituted to review the medical needs of paediatric nurseries.

Chairing a meeting of medical experts to review the situation regarding death of newborn babies at DHQ Hospital Sargodha on Friday, he said that the committee comprising Dean Children Hospital Prof Masood Sadiq, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College Prof Mahmood Shaukat, Medical Director Children Hospital Prof Ahsan Waheed Rathore, Prof Hamayun Iqbal of Services Hospital and Additional Secretary Health (Technical) Dr Salman Shahid would submit its report within 24 hours.

Secretary Health Jawad Rafiq Malik, Director General Health Dr Zahid Pervaiz, Director Health Services Dr Jamil Chaudhry and Bio-Medical Engineer Mazhar were also present during the meeting.

The meeting decided that Children Hospital Lahore would start a short training course for paediatricians and nurses of all districts from December 1 regarding treatment and care of children. It was decided that senior paediatricians of Children Hospital Lahore and Allied Hospital Faisalabad would be sent to DHQ Hospital Sargodha for monitoring the treatment of newborn babies and the overall situation. Secretary Health Jawad Rafiq Malik issued instructions for immediately sending the first team of Allied Hospital Faisalabad to Sargodha and gave orders on telephone to Principal Punjab Medical College Faisalabad in this regard.
