The teachers and students of Govt Murray College Sialkot, the alma mater of Faiz Ahmed Faiz, paid rich tributes to the poet on his 30th death anniversary.
Principal Prof Javaid Akhtar Billah said that Faiz ruled the world of poetry and literature after Allama Iqbal, Mirza Ghalib and Mir Taqi Mir. He added that the personal life of Faiz Ahmed Faiz, his family, beginning of his poetry, getting jobs and going back behind bars, his passion, tolerance, courage were worthy to be looked into.
Later, Prof Sabir Nazir Butt, Prof Khawaja Fazail Ahmed, Dr Ashfaq Ahmed Ghauri and Khawaja Irfan Hameed said that Faiz appeared in ever dimension after Allama Iqbal. They said that the frontline role played by his poetry could never be forgotten in all the progressive movements. They said that Faiz’s foresightedness was unmatchable, which helped in analysing the political and social scenarios through his practical struggle.
They said that Faiz promoted the courageous journalism in the county  besides giving his revolutionary poetry to the nation, having the secretes of the progress, prosperity and development of the nations.
They pointed out that Faiz had married Ailas after she embraced Islam and was given her Islamic name Kalsoom and the act showed his strong affiliation with Islam. They said that Ch Feroz Ahmed Faiz and Mian Hussain had been the old friends of Faiz in Sialkot as they used to arrange the literary gatherings in Sialkot city’s Kashmiri Bazaar area.
exhibition: The inaugural ceremony of a three-day Fine Arts exhibition was held at University of Sargodha here.
Arts & Law Dean Faculty Dr Muhammad Nawaz Mehsud was the chief guest of the ceremony. Dr Hussain Ahmad Piracha and Maryam Saif were also present on the occasion.
After viewing creative works of textile, he said that he was highly impressed by such attractive pieces of arts and craft in the field of textile and interior designing. The personal observations always bring radical updated changes and beauty in fine arts, he added. He also appreciated the academic efforts of VC Dr Mohammad Akram Chaudhry to elevate the Department of Fine Art.
In her speech, Fine Art Department In-charge Maryam Saif said that the Arts exhibition was very much valuable. BS Textile students worked hard for the exhibition. Public Relations and Publications Director Dr Hussain Ahmad Piracha said that the arts work of students was simultaneously of local and international level.
