Lahore- Jamat-e-Islami former chief Syed Munawar Hasan today expressed his desire for a just, Islamic society in Pakistan.

He called for waging Jihad for elimination of oppression from Pakistan along with democratic struggle, saying that Jihad was the fundamental principle of Islam.

“Due to propaganda against Jihad, people are now even ashamed of using this word. We need to wage Jihad in the way of Almighty Allah along with democratic struggle to eliminate oppression and injustice,” he said.

Criticizing the ongoing military operations in tribal areas of the country, he reiterated that military operations had never been the solution of insurgency anywhere in the world.

“Neither the military operation in Swat nor the ongoing war in South Waziristan is solving any problem,” he said. Success claims regarding drone attacks and aerial bombing must also be confirmed, he concluded.
