Annual South Asia Human Development Report launched at LUMS
LAHORE (PR): Mahbub ul Haq Research Centre at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has launched its Annual Human Development in South Asia Report for 2016. The report is titled “Empowering Women in South Asia”. Besides providing an overall South Asia profile, the report presents a detailed analysis of women’s empowerment in five countries: Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
The launch event was addressed by Khadija Haq, President of Human Development Center, Justice (r) Nasira Iqbal, and Syeda Henna Babar Ali, Advisor Consumer Products Division Packages Ltd. Other speakers included Syed Iqbal Riza, Special Advisor to the United Nations Secretary General, Khawar Mumtaz, current chairperson of the National Commission on the Status of Women, Dr Nida Yasmeen Kirmani, Associate Professor of LUMS School of Social Sciences, and Nazam Maqbool, senior research fellow of the Mahbub ul Haq Research Centre.
Each year, the report analyses an issue concerning socio-economic development in South Asia. This year’s report points out South Asia has made considerable progress regarding women’s education and health over the past 15 years but has limited opportunities to offer women in economic, political, and justice system. Despite fragmented progress, Khadija Haq was hopeful for the future of women in South Asia. If political will is there and resources are made available, the region can improve the situation in the next 15 years by working diligently on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for women’s empowerment towards 2030.

Samhan Housing launched
LAHORE (PR): After tremendous success of Gujranwala and Sargodha projects, Samhan Group of Companies has formally launched its independent real estate brand by the name of Samhan Housing. Nestlé Milo partners with National Grammar School
LAHORE (PR): Parents in Pakistan are increasingly concerned about the lack of physical activity for their children.
