lahore -  The business community has shown concern on repeated complaints of low gas pressure in Ferozepur Road and other industrial areas and urged the authorities concerned to resolve the issue once for all.

Representative of the Ferozepur Road Industrial Area informed the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry that low pressure of gas has become one of the biggest issues being faced by the industrialists of the area. They said that because of low pressure of gas, industrial production is at the lowest ebb.

LCCI President Abdul Basit said that low gas pressure is like non-provision of gas. It hurts industry badly therefore the authorities should take all steps to keep the industrial wheel on the run.

Ferozepur Road Welfare Industrial Organization (FRWO) former chairman Adeeb Iqbal Sheikh said that the industry needs a continuous supply of gas and electricity to keep the units operational and to complete the export orders well within the given timeframe but only because of the shortage of electricity the exports are not up to the mark.

He also urged the Punjab government to declare Ferozepur Road Industrial Area as “Industrial Estate”.

Adeeb Iqbal Sheikh informed that Ferozepure Road Industrial area has more than 300 industrial units and trading houses catering to the needs of over one hundred and fifty thousands of people directly or indirectly but due to non-availability of fundamental facilities, the industrialists were facing multiple problems.

He said that law and order situation was also not encouraging.

FRWO former chairman complained that both the provincial and the district governments had neglected the area and no development work was carried out here.

He said that the government should understand well that the acute energy shortage had hit the entire industrial sector and it is working on a bailout package to the industry. He appreciated that that existing industrial estates, despite facing various challenges, are making a sizeable contribution to the Pakistan’s economy.

He said that at a time when country is struggling to achieve export target, unavailability of gas to the industrial sector would play a devastating role.

They said that how the government would be able to collect revenues to

run its day-to-day affairs when the industrial wheel is coming to a halt.

They said that the government should understand that economic well being is a must and it is only possible when business community would be able to play its due role.
