KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday inaugurated the ninth International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2016 at Expo Centre in Karachi.

Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif welcomed the prime minister at the venue.

Addressing on the occasion, Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan pursues the motto of arms for peace, which has always been the tagline of IDEAS. He said over two thousand weapons system and equipment on display in the exhibition also reflect broad-based participation of Pakistan's public and private sector in defence production and export, supported by research and development.

He said IDEAS-2016 demonstrates results of collaboration of local and foreign technologies. These efforts have resulted in achieving self-reliance in defence production and opening up for exports.

The Prime Minister said defence products of Pakistan are state of the art and stand fully tested by our own armed forces. Our defence products have made their mark in many countries of the world.

“There are many opportunities for further growth and exploration of new markets” Nawaz added.

He said Pakistan is fast emerging producer of quality defence products, promising today's Pakistan is brighter and reassuring than every before. He invited foreign companies to expand their business linkages with Pakistan.

The Prime Minister added that the government is paying special attention towards the social sector and is investing in development of the defence industry.“Pakistan offers vast opportunities for profitable investment,” he said.

The exhibition is being arranged by Defense Export and Promotion Organization under the theme of "Arms for Peace." Twenty-one foreign and 157 national firms are showcasing their products in the exhibition.

According to organizers, JF-Thunder, K8 Aircraft, Al-Khalid Tank, Fast Attack Craft Missile Boat and other defense products are showcased in the exhibition.

IDEAS exhibits a wide variety of defence systems, ranging from equipment used in the third world countries to the most sophisticated technology from the west and showcases technology of tomorrow and innovations in defence with several thousand weapon systems and items of equipment on display.

The event provides an ideal interactive platform for defence forces to access the best products and technologies available to cater for their respective defence requirements. It is the most important market place for presenting innovative ideas.

It also facilitates meetings and networking sessions with numerous high profile delegates, policy makers, diplomats and defence procurement experts all in one place.
