Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, as part of his farewell visits, arrived in Quetta Tuesday where he addressed officers and troops of Southern Command and the Frontier Corps.

"The people of Balochistan have clearly rejected foreign sponsored terrorists and helped the state in busting their network," Inter-Services Public Relations quoted the army chief as saying.

"Now that the tide in Balochistan has been turned against terrorists and their sympathisers, and large number of Ferraris are surrendering, we will continue to work with the provincial and federal governments towards greater security and stability."

General Sharif said that security and assistance to the civilian government in institution building and development work in remote areas has been his priority during his tenure.

The army chief commended the soldiers of Southern Command and the FC for the role they played in the construction of more than 1,000 kilometres of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) roads.

Referring to the Gwadar port, General Sharif said, "The Gwadar port and CPEC will usher in a new era of hope and prosperity for the area with dividends reaching the common man."
