LAHORE - A woman and her husband were arrested by police in connection with murder of a seven-year-old girl who was found tortured to death near a drain in Shahdara police precincts the other day.

Police officer Syed Karrar Hussain told reporters that the couple had fled to Karachi after killing the girl identified as Muqaddas. The Homicide Cell of the Shahdara police arrested the couple during a raid in Karachi. The couple was also produced before the media. The murder suspects were named by police as Naila and her husband Saeed Ahmad.

Earlier, the police had registered a murder case against unidentified people and launched an investigation to resolve the blind murder case.

During interrogation, the couple confessed to police investigators their involvement in the killing. The deceased was stepdaughter of Naila and she was murdered over some domestic row. The couple had managed to escape after throwing the girl’s body into a drain. After identification of the body, the police arrested the couple.

Addressing a news conference at his office on Tuesday, City Police Division SP (Investigation) Syed Karrar Hussain said that they arrested 12 other criminals who were wanted to the police in different cases of robberies and theft. “We have seized 10 stolen motorcycles, Rs1.7 million and automatic weapons from them. The arrests were made during a special crackdown launched on the criminals involved in street crimes,” the officer said.

The officer said that most of the accused had a criminal history. Several special police teams were given the task to trace and arrest the criminals involved in armed robberies. According to police investigators, at least 38 cases of robberies were traced against the arrested suspects.


A 50-year-old woman was found dead alongside the canal in the limits of Batapur police on Tuesday afternoon. Her body was moved to the morgue for an autopsy. Rescue workers said the body was lying in the bushes alongside the canal as they reached the spot. Some passersby spotted the body and alerted the police by phone. According to Edhi Ambulance Service, the woman was later identified as Razia. The police were investigating the death.
