ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) will participate in a three-day mega international event “Pakistan’s Business Delegation in the United Kingdom” commencing from December 18 in order to introduce Pakistani handmade world class furniture products to attract foreign investors and buyers.

PFC Chief Executive Mian Kashif Ashfaq said that PFC has decided to participate in all international furniture exhibitions across the world to explore the foreign markets for the exports of made in Pakistan furniture. He said that during the visit the new trends and requirements of the interested clients will also be studied, adding that there was a great demand for Pakistani furniture products abroad as its designs are unique besides popularity of properly processed high quality wood for its durability.

He also appreciated the efforts of International Business Council for organising this mega event and hoped the council will also organise identical events in other countries too. With reference to PFC mega event, he said, "We are receiving tremendous response from local and foreign furniture producers as more than 90 percent stalls in upcoming PFC exhibition have already been booked. He hoped that organising of such exhibitions would help restoring local furniture industry in Pakistan."

The PFC is focusing on marketing activities in key markets including United States, Japan, European Union and the Gulf. A concerted action is being taken for holding exhibitions, websites, international trade fairs and in-depth market analyses,” he added. He said, “Establishment of joint ventures with foreign producers of woods for the provision of required machinery can bolster the quality of our furniture products and brings them at par with international standards.”

The PFC chief executive said that participation in international shows should be deemed imperative for furniture exports. He stressed the need for the establishment of joint ventures with UK for the provision of required machinery, which would bolster the quality of Pakistan’s furniture products and bring them at par with international standard.

The PFC is also continuing its work to develop a Pakistani presence in more countries and to act as the focal point for Pakistani furniture designers and manufacturers to enter the international market,” he added. PFC General Manager Hamid Mahmood said Pakistan was not known globally as a furniture market which could convince international business community about innovation and quality of Pakistani products.

He said that Europe would be the biggest market for Pakistan’s textile products in future. However, Pakistan should also focus on other exportable products to increase its share in European market and reduce dependence on traditional exports. In Pakistan, he said, most of the furniture was hand-made but still it was very cheap and could be marketed in EU countries at a better price.
