PESHAWAR -  Peshawar High Court on Tuesday sought reply from Inspector General of Police Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in a writ petition of a girl allegedly made to walk naked at her village in Dera Ismail Khan District.

A division bench of the PHC comprising Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Syed Afsar Shah issued notice to the IGP KP through Advocate General KP Abdul Latif Yousafzai, asking him to submit reply till November 22 (today).

Senior lawyer Qazi Anwar appeared in the petition for the victim girl and prayed the court to direct the KP government and the police chief to provide security to the victim girl and her family. He stated that the petitioner also sought the court’s orders for the IGP and DIG DI Khan police to submit weekly report on the progress of investigation into the incident to ensure justice to her.

He further prayed the court to direct the IGP and the DIG to include the name of the person, who is suspected of filming the incident in the FIR. He also sought direction from the court for the police to recover the video from possession of the suspect or anyone else to whom he might have handed over the video to avoid its misuse.

In the petition, the girl narrated the account of what happened to her on Oct 27 at her village in DI Khan and how the local police supported the suspected culprits by twisting facts in the FIR.

The petitioner, about 16 years old, an orphan living with her mother, brother Sajid and sisters, added that some two years ago her brother Sajid was accused of gifting a cell phone to a female relative of Sajawal’s family and that the issue was placed before a local jury in Daraban tehsil, which was presided over by tehsil nazim Mooni Khan.

The petitioner said that on Oct 27, she along with other females of neighbouring houses went to fetch water from a water pond and that on her way home, she was passing nearby the residence of Sajawal and Sanaullah when the accused including Sajawal and his brother Shahjehan, Nasir and Aslam, sons of Faizu, Sanaullah and others, came out.

The girl added that she was later paraded naked in the streets, while a person caught the incident on camera.

In Search of Justice Chairperson Salma Malik while talking to media persons said the case had been brought to the PHC so that it is pursued without pressure from any quarter of the area.
