LAHORE - The Gulberg, one of the main posh localities, is fast turning to be the worst victim of illegal activities of land grabbing mafia in connivance with the officials of Revenue Department. The menace continues to grip the locality making mockery of the rhetoric of staging war against land grabbers by PML-N provincial government led by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Despite the functioning of Special Cell spearheaded by CM PSO Kh Imran Nazir to nip the evil in the bud, the Gulberg area a hub of multi-storeyed plazas, has been falling prey to land-grabbing monsters. It is astonishing that officials of Revenue Department are found directly involved in the proliferation of the illegal practice. But law is yet to take its course. The spread of evil could be assessed with the fact that Revenue Department Naib Tehsildar Saman Khan and Patwari Muhammad Abid got transferred the 9 Kanal and 5 Marlas land worth Rs200 million of a person, Albert Clive, to building developers Hiji Nasir and Mian Zaheeruddin Babar through fake documentation. The land is located at Khasra Number 1069, 1071, 1072, 1074 in the Gulberg. The elderly victim Albert, resident of Canal Park Gulberg III, had to appeal to CM Punjab after being driven from pillar to post to seek justice. Fortunately, CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif ordered an inquiry forthwith. DDO (Revenue) Saleh Saeed was tasked to look into the matter. After investigation, she recommended action against accused Revenue Department Niab Tehsildar Saman Khan and Patwari Muhammad Abid. She also forwarded a letter to EDO (Revenue) to get the transfer deed cancelled. Meanwhile taking notice of the issue, secretary Law and Order Naseem Sadiq has sought report from EDO (Revenue). According to letter issued by CM Secretariat, Albert Clive submitted his appeal to chief minister that his 7 kanal and 5 marlas land had been transferred to Haji Nasir and 2 kanal land to Mian Zaheeruddin Babar in connivance with the Revenue Department. DDO (Revenue) Saleh Saeed found them guilty after probing the issue and called for official action against them. However, inaction of higher authorities has put a question mark on their credibility. Any further delay will cause smear for the department concerned as well as government. It may be recalled that Gulberg is most infested areas with illegal high rising plazas. Authorities concerned announced to demolish them but the move could not make headway. These plazas include Hemain Tower, Hassan Town, Ijaz Centre, Makkah Tower, Jeff Heights, Mega Tower, Ashrafi Height, Rehman Tower, Zarina Tower, Laki Hotel, Hotel Building, Variety Book Shop, Leads Centre, Askari Bank, SS house, and the famous Siddique Trade Centre.
