LAHORE Superb physical training of famous international athletes Muhammad Talib came to the limelight when KPT outclassed Afghan Club by tennis score of 6-2 at KPT - Benazir Sports Complex, Karachi during the Pakistan Premier Football League clash on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Shakir Lashari hammered fifth hat-trick of the show as Tariq Lutfi-managed PIA outclassed Nushki Baloch FC 4-0 at Korangi Baloch Stadium, Sharafi, Karachi. The visitors from Nushki started off aggressively, challenging the PIA team who have made a very good impression in this tournament so far after their re-entry two years ago, but the airmen remained unfazed and started putting away goals at a steady pace, building up a three goal lead through goals by Shakir Lashari (2) and Imran Abdullah by interval. It was baby-faced Imran who started the rout when striker, who represented Pakistan in 13th AFC U-16 Championship at Qatar 2007, caught Nasr Ullahs cross and smashed it past keeper Nasr ullah in the 25th minute. From then on, it was SAG Games gold medallist 2006 Shakir Lashari who dominated the show. He made it 2-0 six minutes later with solo spurt enhanced the lead to 3-0 on the 43rd minute. PIA led 3-0 at interval and Shakir registered hat-trick two minutes from time, the fifth of the event (WAPDAs Arif Mehmood had three and Navys Nomi Martin Gill had one hat-trick against their name). Shakir is now second in the list of scorers with eight goals after Arif Mehmood (16). Both the teams completed 14 matches. PIA are currently fifth in the table with 20 points while bottom-placed Baloch FC managed two points. Shahid Saleem showed fine display alongwith winger Zahid Ahmed as KPTs second half proved shattering for Afghans as their keeper Jahangir conceded five goals in second half. The match was evenly poised at interval as only Zahids 14th minute goal separated the two sides with KPT 1-0 at lemon break. The portmen pushed the game away from visitors from Balochistan in second period as Zahid made it 2-0 in the 55th minute, followed by goal from Ismail Baba three minutes later. But Aman Ullah-led Afghans tried all out to make it 2-3 with goals from Abdul Hadi (62nd min) and Aman (73rd min). However, they failed to make the winning break as KPT overpowered Afghan defence with three goals in the final 12 minutes through Shahid Saleem (78th, 82nd min) and Muhammad Khan (88th min). The KPT are in sixth place with 20 points in 14 games while Afghan FC had completed same number of matches, yielding 13 points. Thursday (Oct 22).
