KARACHI - Rafiqi Shaheed Road, an important road of the City where on lies major hospitals runs under the federal government is in a dilapidated condition and has become a nightmare for motorists and pedestrians, especially for patients and their attendants alike. The road adjacent to main artery Shahra-e-Faisal and where Citys major government Hospitals including Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) Hospital, Cardio Vascular Centre, National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Sindh Medical College, Dr Ishratul Ebad Oral Centre and several other important offices are located presents glimpses like that of a war-torn country. The road full of potholes not only creates problems for patients and their attendants, but also put their lives at risk, a group of doctors from the JPMC told TheNation. They said that due to the poor state of the road, emergency patients like with critical injuries and those with heart attack, have to manoeuvre through it. The bumps and jolts occur when vehicles strike against these pothole suffer the patients more and their conditions sometimes become more worst after experiencing a journey on Rafiq Shaheed Road. Besides the pedestrians and motorists, the National Forum for Environment & Health (NFEH) have also express deep regret over the poor construction of the thoroughfare. The NFEH has requested to the Provincial government as well as the Cantonment board chief to orders immediate construction or repair of the road. The condition reflects apathy and inefficiency on the part of the departments concerned so they have to resolve this problem to give a relief to people, it said.
