LAHORE The Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers (SPELT) in collaboration with Beaconhouse School System conducted the 27th annual conference for training of teachers here on Friday. Dr Tariq Rahman, who was the guest of honour, shared his precious knowledge and distinguished research work with the participants on the occasion. While addressing to the participants, conference coordinator Aafia Qureshi said that the conference was aimed at to integrate the theory, research and practice and giving the teachers an opportunity to enhance the quality of their teaching as well. She said, "Our mission is to create and bridge amongst cultures, nations, languages, teaching methodologies and practices. It is a move towards developing relationships and networks amongst the teaching community, educational institutions, researchers, writers and thinkers. The papers, presentations and workshops had been carefully selected to cover a wide range of topics related to the conference theme that would portray how various elements of methodologies and practices combine and amalgamate. She further said, This year, SPELT Lahore launched its first In-service Certificate in English Language Teaching (ICELT) programme in collaboration with SPELT Karachi, Portal Education and the University of Cambridge, UK in July 2011. The ICELT qualification will help language teachers to enhance their knowledge of the principles of effective teaching and develop their ability to reflect on and improve their practice. She thanked all the presenters from home and abroad. She acknowledged the efforts of the entire team for holding the conference.
