KARACHI – Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Degree College for Women awarded degrees to over 215 graduates of the session 2010 and 2011 at its 12th convocation on SundayKarachi University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Muhammad Qaiser presided over the ceremonyAs many as 215 graduates of the session 2010 and 2011 were awarded BA, BSc and BCom degrees whereas 25 masters’ degrees were also conferred on the students. Six students of MA (Economics) 2009 were also awarded degrees.20 students of the college were awarded degrees in MA (Economic), 5 students in MA (English), 87 students were awarded BCom degrees, 48 students received BSc degrees and 84 students were given BA degrees in the humanities and liberal arts.Vice Chancellor in his convocation address congratulated the graduates on their accomplishment “The purpose of education was to produce versatile, dynamic and enlightened graduates who could contribute for the well being of the nation,” said the Vice ChancellorHe said the backwardness and regression of the nation was because it lagged behind in quality education. He lamented that education never got its due priority in the perennial history of the country and as such the culture for learning, knowledge and awareness could not be developed in the society. He retreated the promotion of education was the key to progress and prosperity of the country.He appreciated the establishment DHA Suffa University and termed it as landmark educational institution of the country.He said that it was imperative that women participated equally with men in all walks of life if the country was to develop and progress.  Vice Chancellor commended DHA Degree College for Women for maintaining its glorious traditions of academic excellence and for producing confident and dynamic women graduates who were the ambassadors of good will for the country.Earlier, DHA College for Women’s Principal Dr Farhat Agha, in her annual report, highlighted the academic and co-curricular achievements of the College. She said that the College imparted wholesome education to young women to nurture their intellectual and physical talents so that they could excel in various fields of practical life.Students who got gold and silver medals for securing top position in MA include:Umme-Hani Joozer for achieving First position in MA (English) 2011, Ujala Riaz and Anam Jamal for getting first and second position in MA (Economics) 2009, Fatima Aslam and Sidra Rasool for getting top two positions in University in MA (Economics) 2010 and Farah Javed and Aisha J Ahmed for getting 1st and 2nd position in KU in MA (Economics) 2011.The Vice Chancellor also awarded medals and cash awards to 27 brilliant students of the college who secured top three positions in various University and Board examinations. At the end Dir Education DHA Talib Hussain presented a memorial shield to the Vice Chancellor.
