LAHORE – City police on Sunday claimed that they arrested at least 281 proclaimed offenders during the last 15 days as the crackdown against most wanted criminals has been stepped up on the directions of DIG (Operations) Rai Muhammad Tahir.

According to a police spokesman, the police smashed 14 gangs of robbers by arresting their 38 members and also recovered looted valuables worth Rs 1.25 million from their possession during the same period.

The police also registered 157 cases against 172 drug-pushers and recovered 10-kg heroin, 39-kg chars and 803 bottles of liquor from their possession.

The police also raided at least 34 brothels located in different parts of the City and arrested 146 persons and cases were registered against them.

According to him, DIG (Operations) Rai Muhammad Tahir has ordered the police to step up crackdown against the elements involved in heinous crimes and those involved in social crimes.
