RAWALPINDI  - Most of the CCTV cameras installed on the important places of Rawalpindi city and Cantonment area to supplement security and keep an eye on the criminals have went out of order, but the authorities are not paying any heed to repair them.

According to sources, 60 percent of the cameras are out of order, making a big lapse in the security of residents of the city. The sources revealed that Rawalpindi city had no close circuit camera, while there were 37 cameras installed in different chowks and important places in the Cantonment Board and Chaklala areas.

There are total 10 cameras installed in district courts, out of which seven are out of order, the sources said, adding that most of the CCTV cameras installed at Mareer Chowk, Ammar Chowk, Scheme Three, GPO Chowk and many other places do not have cables, thus cannot make footage.

The district government did not install any camera in Rawalpindi city and the cameras put in by the traders and business community on their own have gone out of order now, and there was no control room in the area.

The business community and residents of Rawalpindi city and Cantonment Board have demanded of the authorities concerned to repair the CCTV cameras to ensure law and order situation.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Rawalpindi, Imdad Ullah Bosal has directed the police officials to ensure foolproof security of places of Eid prayers, sacrificial animal markets and shopping markets and plazas of all the districts of the division.

According to sources, Eid vacations of official and workers of police, security agencies and other institutions have been canceled in this connection.

The commissioner issued these directives in a meeting to finalise the security and other arrangements for Eid-ul-Azha the other day.

On the occasion, the commissioner said that police officials in plain cloths would be deployed in major markets and shopping plazas of the city to make sure the security of the Eid shoppers.
