SADIQABAD/BAHAWALPUR - The PPP Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur leaders said that the Supreme Court’s remarks on the Asghar Khan case have confirmed that PPP was kept deprived of rule and cheap tactics were adopted by the PML-N leadership to make the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad successful.

"The SC verdict has exposed the Sharif brothers' real character. Action should be taken against those who got huge money from the government agencies to form the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad against the PPP and the money after getting back from them should be deposited in the national treasure according to the court orders. Nawaz Sharif and Shabaz Sharif always came to power with the support of secret agencies. Insha'Allah in the forthcoming elections, the PPP would get landslide with the public support," said they said.

Muhammad Din Rind, Rana Nadeem Aslam, Majeed Baloch, Khawar Bajwa, Arshad Javed, Habibur Rehman, Zafar Iqbal and Mehmoodul Hassan, the district and tehsil office-bearers, told the media that in order to keep the PPP away from the power, conspiracies were hatched. Now, they added, the court verdict has proved that the IJI was made jointly by the establishment and the politicians. They also demanded that such politicians including the Sharif brothers who got money from General (r) Aslam Baig and other agencies should be declared disqualified for politics and contesting elections. 

The district leaders said that now the government agencies and the establishment's game was over. Now, the elections would be fair, free and transparent and those win elections with the public support will form governments. Insha'Allah, the PPP would win the general elections with majority, they expressed the hope. 

Likewise, the PPP Bahawalpur secretary information said the Supreme Court’s verdict has validated and vindicated PPP’s stance that elections were rigged in 1990.

He said the PPP always raised a voice against wrongdoing and malpractices in the past. Talking to the media, he appreciated investigation conducted by the Federal Investigation Agency against the people who were involved in this undemocratic and unconstitutional act.

He said no institution or individual is above the law and investigation should be initiated irrespective of the political status or affiliation. “We hope that the Election Commission would ensure transparent and fair general elections in the country.

He reiterated that the PPP believed in the politics of reconciliation as the country cannot afford political confrontation. He said concerted and consistent efforts were needed to face the challenges being faced by the country. To a question, Saleem Bhatti said the government always respected the court verdicts and strived for harmonious relations among the state institutions as the PPP government believed in free media. He added that an all-out effort was being made to ensure better working atmosphere for the newsmen.
