BAHAWALPUR – Punjab Parliamentary Secretary Malik Jehanzeb Warran has said that the Islamia University of Bahawalpur is heading towards becoming a model university of the country, terming it a pride for the district.

He said that the district was making social and educational progress through the contribution of the university as the recent development of IUB in academic, research, development and administrative fields is the first step towards progress and prosperity. Warran expressed satisfaction over the ongoing progress of the IUB and said it can play an important role in the educational promotion in South Punjab and can lead to the heights of progress and development in education and socio-economic uplift of the area.

He remarked these views during a meeting with Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Mukhtar and exchanged views for the future uplift of the university. The vice-chancellor informed the secretary about the ongoing academic and development projects and thanked the Punjab and federal governments over provision of complete support for various schemes.

He also briefed the secretary about the IUB Sub-Campuses of Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalnagar. The vice chancellor said that the IUB was taking keen interest in the promotion of local culture in collaboration with public and private organisations.

The secretary pledged his full support for a medical college, Desert Research Centre in Cholistan and remarked that the proposed Medical College of the IUB could be attached with the under-construction District Headquarters Hospital to work as a teaching Hospital.

He was of the view that the Desert Research Centre in Cholistan near Derawar Fort would be quite beneficiary for various fields for local and national interest so early efforts should be made for this project to launch large scale research about livestock and herbal information for public and national service.

Warran also remarked that the Punjab government should take benefit from the services of the IUB’s archeology department to preserve the heritage of Bahawalpur.
