RAWALPINDI – City Traffic Police (CTP) will take strict action against one-wheelers and a special drive will be launched to curb the activity especially on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

The youngsters found indulged in one-wheeling, rash and dangerous driving will also be sent behind the bars. This was stated by Chief Traffic Officer, (CTO) Superintendent Police (SP) Syed Ishtiaq Hussain Shah. He said the activity is being checked by special squads of traffic officials deputed on the city roads but special arrangements are also being made to check the activity during Eid-ul-Azha holidays.                      

He informed that city traffic police take stern action against the one-wheelers and the city roads especially the attractive areas for the activity are covered effectively. He said grand operation on Eid would be conducted against the violators of the law and those who will be founded indulged in one-wheeling, dangerous and rash driving will be issued challan tickets and fined. Motorcycles and vehicles on severe traffic rules violations will also be impounded during Eid holidays in various police stations of the city, he added. The SP told traffic police officers are being issued special directives to keep a vigilant eye on the one-wheelers so that action in accordance with the law could be taken against them. Under special arrangements, traffic officials will be deployed at Ayub Park, Murree Road near Underpass, Rawal Road, Sixth Road, Stadium Road and other places.

Every sector of the city will be covered by separate squads to be formed in this regard who will perform duties under two shifts. Night duties of traffic police officers will also be arranged to check severe traffic rules violations including one-wheeling, he informed.

The traffic officers and circle heads have been directed to take stern action against the one-wheelers without discrimination and no one should be spared if found involved in this dangerous act, which is a cause of deaths and severe injuries for the riders.

He said the citizens particularly parents should come forward and play an active role to curb the activity as one wheeling, rash and negligent driving are the main causes for fatal accidents. He said the grand operations are conducted by city traffic police to discourage drivers especially youth from violating traffic rules. The operation would continue in future, he added.
