Afghan shell kills Bajaur tribesman

BAJAUR AGENCY - A tribesman was killed and two others injured when mortar shells fired from Kunar province of Afghanistan hit a border village of Pakistan’s Nawagi tehsil in Bajaur Agency on Tuesday morning.
Officials of the political administration confirmed the incident that two mortar shells fired by unidentified militants from across the border landed in remote area of Babara Charmang, 43 kilometers north west of Khar, the headquarters of Bajaur Agency.
The officials added that the mortar shells hit the house of local tribesman Shena Khan resulting in on the spot death of a person, besides injuries to two others.
The deceased was identified as Sher Ali Khan but names of the wounded couldn’t be verified. Later, the injured were taken to the Agency Headquarters Hospital Khar where their condition was stated to be out of danger. Residents of the area said that some parts of the house were also damaged in the attack.
After the incident volunteers of village defence committee came out of their houses and started a search in the area. Local people claimed that the mortars were fired by militants living in Kunar province.
“We believe that the miscreants who are living in Afghanistan’s eastern Kunar province are behind the attack as these elements have frequently targeted the border areas for the last several years,” they said. However, the officials of the administration refused to comment about who could be responsible for the attack in the border area of Agency and said that they had started investigation into the incident.
“We are investigating the incident but we can’t say anything that who could be responsible for the attack before the conclusion of the inquiry started by the administration,” the officials added. The Tuesday’s cross-border attack in the region was the second back to back incident in the areas.
Meanwhile, a group of militants belonging to TTP also attacked a security post in border area of Ghakhi in Mamond tehisl on Monday that wounded at least three security personnel.
Separately, a member of peace committee was wounded in a bomb blast in border area of Batmali in Salarzai tehisl on Tuesday evening, the officials of the administration said.
They said that Jamal Khan, an active member of village defence committee was on way to his home when a roadside bomb exploded and injured him critically. He was taken to a local hospital, where his condition was stated to be serious.
MORTAR SHELL KILLS THREE IN KHYBER
Three tribesmen of a family including a woman and child were killed and three others sustained injuries when a stray mortar shell fired by militants landed on a house in Bachai Nehar, Sipah area of tehsil Bara in Khyber Agency, administration and local sources said on Tuesday.
According to relative of bereaved family, the mortar shell fired late on Monday night by unknown people hit their house, located near Dogra Hospital in Sipah tribe of Bara, killing three persons of a family and wounding three others along with a female and minor girl.
The deceased were identified as Peer Mohammad, his wife Saida Khan and Bilal, 9 while the wounded included Ayesha 7, wife of Azmat and Abdullah. They were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital (LR) for treatment, local sources said.
The wife of Azmat is reportedly said to be in critical condition.
Meanwhile on the fifth consecutive day, the forces continued their operation, Khyber One, against the militants in Bara and Tirah Valley. As per Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) 2,500 families of Bara tribal region have vacated their homes and taken refuge at safer places downtown in Jamrud, Peshawar and adjacent areas.
