Habib University organises 2nd annual conference

KARACHI(PR): Habib University, a first of its kind Liberal Arts and Sciences institute of Pakistan, is to organise the Second Annual Postcolonial Higher Education Conference, from October 25, 2014. The aim is to gather global scholars, thinkers, activists and writers to reflect on the current situation of higher education. Prof. Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, one of the world’s foremost postcolonial thinker, will be the keynote speaker at this conference.

Speaking of this event, Nauman Naqvi, Acting Dean & Founding Faculty at Habib University, School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, said.

Saemaul Undong to help

in economic uplift

KARACHI (PR): Korea International Cooperation Agency(KOICA) Pakistan has held a workshop to draw up a plan to introduce and apply Saemaul Undong to Pakistan. 17 government officials from Punjab province have participated in this workshop, and had heated discussion. Sung Choonki, the Director General of KOICA Pakistan began the workshop with his opening remark, and said that “Saemaul Undong will contribute greatly on social and economic development of Pakistan.”

Singing competition

KARACHI (PR): Obhartay Sitaray (OS) is an inter-school singing competition event arranged by The Citizen Foundation (TCF) since 2012. The event aims at promoting not only healthy competition amongst students but also raise funds for TCF. BSS-South schools have participated since its inception.

This year 250 schools from Karachi participated. Twenty-two of our students were selected to compete in the finale held at Marriott Hotel on October 11, 2014.

Gulshan Middle-II and North Nazimabad A Level branches won the runners-up trophies at the secondary and college levels respectively.

Sheheryar Ahmed of Gulshan A Level branch won the Winning Voice Trophy in the ghazal genre. He also won the TCF Running trophy, Akbar Ali Hashwani’s trophy and the participation shield.

Firzah Ahmed from Jubilee Campus and Ahmed Hanif from North Nazimabad won runners-up trophies and participation shields at the secondary and college levels respectively.

UMT book fair draws crowds

LAHORE:(PR) University of Management and Technology Lahore hold its annual Book Fair at its Johar Town premises. Renowned booksellers set up their stalls that were visited by a large number of people from all walks of life including students and teachers from various schools, colleges and universities, parents, children and other booklovers.

The book fair was inaugurated by Director General UMT Abid HK Shirwani along with Chief Library Officer Muhammad Rafique Awan, Dr Abdul Hameed, Dr Rukhsana Kaleem and other faculty members.

Adjutant General visits

DHA project site

KARACHI (PR): Adjutant General, Lt Gen Zamir-ul-Hassan Shah visited DHA City Karachi (DCK) project site. DCK is one of the largest and most modern residential projects being developed by DHA Karachi. Administrator DHA Brig Zubair Ahmed briefed the Adjutant General about the salient features of the project and the ongoing infrastructure development work. He highlighted that in accordance with the promise, DCK will be made livable by 2016.

The Adjutant General appreciated the progress of the work as per stipulated time line and expressed that the development on the project substantiated the credibility of DHA in the field of housing and development in the country.

Telenor to rehabilitate

ISLAMABAD (PR): Telenor Pakistan in collaboration with Plan International has announced the launch of scale up phase of its school rehabilitation and improvement project in Nowshehra. The announcement was made recently during the launch ceremony attended by Atif Khan, Education Minister Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, officials of Education Department KP, representatives of Plan International, National Rural Support Program and Telenor Pakistan.

Tevta to introduce

market-oriented courses

LAHORE (PR): Chairperson TEVTA Irfan Qaiser Shaikh has said that TEVTA would involve industrial sector to introduce market oriented courses at our Institutes across the province of the Punjab. 

A scientific system would be developed for the placement of TEVTA pass-outs according to their level of skills at local and foreign job market.  In this way, TEVTA would help poor skilled youth to become a useful member of the society. He was addressing Officers of TEVTA in a meeting here yesterday.

Irfan Qaiser Shaikh said that the availability of skilled manpower is not only a key to success for industrial development in Pakistan but also for individual socio-economic prosperity and poverty alleviation in the society.
