LAHORE  - The poverty-stricken mother who attempted suicide after throwing her two kids off the fourth storey of a residential apartment in Faisal Town has gained consciousness at the intensive care unit of the Jinnah Hospital, police sources said Tuesday.

Investigators however, say the woman is not in a position yet to record her statement. Police are investigating the case keeping in view various aspects of the happening. The police have also registered a criminal case against the woman on the charges of murder, attempted murder, and attempted suicide. The case was registered with Faisal Town police on the complaint of her husband.

Abida Parveen threw off her one-month-old son from the fourth storey of a residential apartment before jumping down along with her two-year-old daughter Umme Farwa. The baby boy, identified as Saddam Hussain, died on the spot while the woman and her daughter were rushed to the Jinnah Hospital in serious condition.

The family told the police that relations between the couple were not cordial for the last couple of months as they used to quarrel over domestic disputes. Police sources say they believe the poverty-hit woman took the extreme step as her husband was unable to feed his family properly. Further investigation was underway.

SHOT DEAD: A father of four was shot dead by his opponents over property dispute in the main bazaar Mughalpura on Tuesday. Police said that unidentified gunmen intercepted Rahmat Khan in the main bazaar and started thrashing him. The gunmen then opened straight fire at him and fled the crime scene after ensuring his on-the-spot death. The police reached the spot and removed the body to the morgue for autopsy. The family told the police that the killers had a property dispute with Rahmat Khan, who was pursuing a few cases against them in the local courts. The police are investigating.
