Pakistan telecom team visits Korea to contest ITU polls

islamabad (Staff Reporter): Pakistan’s delegation, headed by Ms Anusha Rahman Khan, Minister of State for Information Technology, comprising of representatives of Ministry of Information Technology, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently visiting Busan, Republic of Korea, to contest for Pakistan’s candidature for International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council Elections. ITU is a United Nations’ specialised agency for telecommunication, which has been established to standardise and regulate international radio and telecommunications.

 Pakistan has been a member country of ITU since 26th August 1947 and has actively participated ever since in the working of the Union and decision making on the technical and strategic matters of ITU.

The elections for the next tenure (2015 - 2018) of the ITU Council are due to take place on 27th October, 2014, during the forthcoming ITU Plenipotentiary Conference, scheduled to be held from 20th October - 7th November, 2014, in Busan, Republic of Korea.

ETO to resolve business community

issues on priority basis

rawalpindi (Staff Reporter): Director Excise and Taxation Rawalpindi Jaam Siraj Ahmed said that the problems being faced by business community would be resolved on priority basis. He said that a joint committee would also be formed on Chamber’s recommendation to solve the issues. ETO Rawalpindi collected Rs 1 billion with the support of business community and stood first in tax collection in Punjab, he said. He was exchanging these views with Syed Asad Mashadi President RCCI during his visit to the Chamber on Tuesday. Senior Vice President Mian Humayun Parvez, Vice President Saboor Malik, leaders of trade associations and other members of the Chambers were also present on the occasion.

Director Excise & Taxation said that on the demand of Chamber, National Bank Branch would be established soon in ETO Rawalpindi to facilitate the business community. He further said that department has introduced online system to help businessmen community and was committed to resolve all problems with mutual understanding and consultation.

Speaking on the occasion President RCCI said that business community was facing immense problems regarding property tax and professional taxes. He demanded of the Director to ease the taxation system to generate more revenue. He also suggested that a joint committee must be constituted to resolve the issues and director on the spot accepted this suggestion. Mashadi thanked the guest for accepting his demand. He said that business community is willing to pay tax but government must understand the issues faced by the said community.

First official Danish trade

delegation in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD (NNI): Ambassador of Denmark Sorensen on Tuesday stressed that increasing economic ties between Denmark and Pakistan is good for business. For the first time ever, an official Danish trade delegation is visiting Pakistan to look for new business opportunities and partners.  This was stated by Ambassador of Denmark, Jesper Moller Sorensen, who is accompanying the delegation on its tour around Pakistan. During their week in Pakistan, the delegation will meet prominent Pakistani companies in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. The companies represent different sectors. Some see opportunities in areas, where Pakistan faces challenges, such as energy.

 While the volume of trade between Denmark and Pakistan has been increasing, the potential is still significantly larger.

Exclusive business seminars with individual company meetings will be arranged in all three cities, and the Danish companies will also participate in broader match-making receptions in Karachi and Islamabad.

It is the Danish Embassy in Islamabad that has taken the initiative in collaboration with the Confederation of Danish Industries. As part of the programme, there will also be meetings with policy makers. In Lahore, the delegation will meet the Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif. In Islamabad, they will discuss with the Minister of Commerce, Khurram Dastgir Khan the framework conditions of doing business in Pakistan.

Textile machinery exhibition opens

lahore (Staff Reporter): The largest textile machinery & accessories exhibition IGATEX Pakistan was inaugurated by Chairman Pakistan Textile City and former advisor to Prime Minister on Textile, Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig at Lahore Expo Centre. Dr Baig, in his speech, said IGATEX is the biggest show of textile sector in Pakistan. The exhibition has created immense interest in the world renowned manufacturers of textile machinery to introduce new technology to Pakistan premium textile industry in the drop back of recent GSP Plus duty free facility allowed by EU to Pakistan from January 2014 for 10 years. The four-day exhibition from 21st to 24th October 2014 is being attended by large number of leading textile houses of Pakistan.

Pakistan is already having an edge with state of art plant, machinery and technology in textile sector and is considered as one of the important regional textile hub for quality textile products. All world renowned brands of textile are manufactured in Pakistan.

LSE financial literacy initiative

lahore (Staff Reporter): The first and second session of Financial Literacy initiative under Campus Outreach Programme was held for the students of Superior University Lahore, in collaboration of South Asian Federation of Exchange (SAFE). At the event, Corporate Communications Department-LSE gave a detailed presentation covering all spheres of capital and financial markets. The students were briefly informed about the regulatory framework, market indicators, investment products, financial services & opportunities accessible to investors in Pakistan. Ms. Gitee Bhatti-Officer Corporate Communications quoted practical examples about various investment avenues obtainable in the market and their role in the economic structure of the country.

She also spoke on various operational matters of the Exchanges including listings, trading, corporate governance, sensitivity of Stock Market and investor protection. While addressing to the students, she requested the students to adopt saving behavior in their life style in order to become the Chief Financial Officer of their own life.
