LAHORE The Lahore High Court Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif Tuesday has called for the production of NAB record pertaining to the acquittal of Ambassador to Pakistan in America, Hussain Haqqani, in a reference against him. On the petition of Haqqani, the court has also called for the details of all other cases, if any, against the petitioner and put off further hearing of the case till September 28 next. The petitioner has aggrieved that his name has been enlisted among those who took benefit of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO-defunct) when the fact he was acquitted by the court of law on merit and had never sought benefit of the NRO. He prayed to the court for excluding his name in the list of NRO beneficiaries. The Ministry of Law in reply to the petition said the name of the petitioner was erroneously put in the list of the NRO beneficiaries. The petitioner argued through his counsel during the regime of former military ruler, Pervez Musharraf, no reference was moved against him. However three references against him were filed by the Ehtasab Bureau of Saifur Rahman in 1999 on the accusations of misuse of power by him and he was released by the Lahore High Court in that after over 79 days detention. He contended the SHC acquitted him on merit in one of the three while in another no allegations against were proved during the investigations and hence these cases were dropped against him. As to third reference, he argued that it never reached the stage of prosecution over the last 10 years so no question of seeking benefit of the NRO and believed the investigating agency might have dropped the case against him.
