LAHORE - After comprehensive discussion in media, police and civil departments, two top police officials of Punjab Police Capital Office (CPO) have disclosed that the report about an alleged plot of assassinating Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Mohammad Sharif (KMS) was not based on facts. It was a fabricated, baseless and unjustified report prepared to use as a political stunt to derail democratic system. It was a third party who prepared this report as neither Punjab Civil Defence DG Col (r) Ehsanur Rehman, the then Special Branch Head, nor any other responsible person constructed it, a top police official of the rank of Addl IG of Police seeking anonymity revealed to this scribe when contacted. According to him, only two officials of Special Branch - a Sub-Inspector (SI) and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) - prepared this report and masterly forwarded by Ehsanur Rehman to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif by giving it a title: 'For Eyes Only and 'Urgent, Confidential and Secret. We are interrogating those officials on whose direction they prepared this report, he added. The chief motive behind this report was to create differences among PPP, PML-N and judiciary to destabilise democracy, he said, adding that after comprehensive inquiries and detailed interrogation not a single tangible evidence was collected so far, he added. He further said accused mentioned in the said report including Iqbal Mir, released on May 15 in murder case of former Punjab additional advocate general Arif Bhinder, Nadeem Chohan, Babar Chaudhry and Khawaja Farooq released by the LHC in murder case of ex-inspector Naveed Saeed, Malik Ehsan, still wanted by the Lahore Police due to his alleged involvement in the murder of Arif Hamid alias Tippu Tarakanawala and sixth suspect Babur Sandhoo had been released earlier from the murder case of Justice Nizam and his son, were allegedly involved in a large number of criminal acts so they were intentionally included in this report. Even some of the accused expressed their complete ignorance about the alleged plot when interrogated, the police official said, adding in his personal capacity he could say that the Special Branch officials, who breached the trust of Col (r) Ehsan, and Secretary to Punjab Chief Minister Dr Tauqeer Shah, and leaked the secret document were guilty. When asked about Punjab Governor Salman Taseer and three federal ministers involvement in the alleged plot, he said the federal representative was an 'outspoken person even in his private meetings with PPP parliamentarians while the ministers had expressed their annoyance against CJ Kh Sharif in near past so the 'third party tried to use it for their vested interests but badly failed in achieving its target. According to my knowledge the abovementioned persons casually used to discuss the matters relating to politics and expressed their frustration over judiciary. Moreover, their talk was also taken out of context, he added. He further said the findings collected by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Punjab Caption (r) Zafar Ahmed Qureshi, sensitive agencies, and police department revealed no concrete evidence against the persons mentioned in the report. Another top police official also of the rank of Addl IG of Police said, The officials who talked to Col (r) Ehsan shared with me that a hidden hand wished to achieve his goal by using the police. He, however, said CM Shahbaz Sharif, Governor Salman Taseer, Federal Law Minister Dr Babar Awan and Interior Minister Rehman Malik played very imperative role in tackling the matter as a result of which they successfully foiled the conspiracy.
