KARACHI - An action has been ordered against policemen patronising some 100 gambling and narcotics dens in Karachi, it has been learnt.

A list, being prepared, points out gambling and narcotics dens being run in the metropolis under supervision of certain police officials. The list mentions locations of these dens as well.  Police officials have been asked to stop these dens and take action against officials giving shelter to such kind of illegal activities. DIGs and SSPs concerned have been asked to submit reports in this connection.

According to the list, there are over 100 dens being run in over 80 police stations in all the districts – south, central, east and west – of Karachi. District south has the highest number of gambling and narcotics dens, being operated by Lyari gangsters under the nose of police. District Malir is on the second, district east on the third and district central on the fourth.

Sources privy to the matter said that primary (police) men operating these dens had left the country. Sources said Waseem aka Biter was one of the major ringleaders and he had already left the country.

Sources said the majority of these dens had stopped working before police could take an action.

They said all the dens were closed down because the information about the action had already leaked.
