LAHORE - PTI Punjab President Ijaz Chaudhary on Saturday directed the party’s provincial local government committee and all the regional presidents to prepare final proposals till tomorrow (Monday) concerning a strategy for local bodies’ polls in the cantonment boards.

Ijaz Chaudhry has summoned a party meeting on Monday (September 23) to devise a final strategy for local bodies’ polls in the cantonment boards keeping in the view the proposals of the party’s provincial local government committee and all the regional presidents.

The local elections for the cantonments boards are due on November 3 this year. The PTI provincial local government committee and all the regional presidents will also submit their suggestions on the local bodies’ polls in other areas outside the cantonment boards’ limits. However, no schedule of local bodies’ polls in these parts of the province outside the cantonment boards has been announced by the provincial government as petitions of the opposition challenging the Punjab Local Government Act are pending in the court of law.

The proposals to be submitted by the PTI provincial local government committee and all the regional presidents to the Punjab leadership at tomorrow’s meeting will be prepared in the light of inputs from the party’s district leaderships.

The PTI city chapter leadership, which is led by arch rival of the provincial leadership, is not in the mood of sharing its proposals with the regional leadership of the Central Punjab or with the provincial local government committee, claims a member of the committee.

PTI is likely to face another fiasco in the provincial capital which has become a stronghold of PML-N mainly due to the city chapter leadership’s stubbornness in the local bodies’ polls, remarks a member of the provincial local government committee.

The provincial capital leadership is already under fire from the top leadership for a flawed electoral strategy during the general elections which cost the party heavily.
