LAKKI MARWAT - The annual sports festival of government girl's middle, high and higher secondary school will begin on Oct 3 for which the district female education department has finlised all sorts of arrangements. It was told at a meeting held here in a local school on Saturday.

DEO (female) Razia Khattak presided over the meeting wherein principals and headmistresses of higher, high and middle school participated. Senior physical education teachers were also in the attendance.

The participants unanimously nominated Shana as general secretary of the tournament and tasked her to formulate the schedule for different game events with the help of other colleagues and zonal secretaries.

Speaking at the meeting the district education officer called upon the heads of educational institutions to ensure participation of students in the annual sports gala and cooperate with the organizing committee to make the tournament a success.

She said that active participation in games would enable the students to shine in the field of sports and meet future challenges bravely. "The students can keep themselves physically and mentally fit by taking part in co curriculum activities, therefore the teachers should play their role for promotion of games in the schools," she added.

National songs contest

The Society of Social Welfare and Political Science, a literary body at Government Girl's Degree College organised debate and national songs competition among the students on Saturday to mark Defence Day.

Principal of the college Hajira Masroor presided over the event while Nishat, principal of Khano Model Girl's College was the chief guest on the occasion. Several students of different grades took part in the declamation contest and delivered their speeches in both Urdu and English languages.

The contestants highlighted the importance of celebrating defense day and said that the entire nation salute to the shuhada who laid down their lives for defending their country against the enemy's aggression. They paid tributes to the shuhada and ghazis of 1965 war and said that the brave soldiers of Pak army gave a horrible and humiliated defeat to the enemy. "Such occasions remind us that we should try our best to maintain our dignity and grace like we did in 1965," they told.  On the occasion the society's president Ms Safia Bibi said that the formation of Society of Social Welfare and Political Science helped to promote co curriculum activities in the college. "It diverted the attention of students towards taking part in the healthy and literary activities," she maintained. Principal Hajira said that that students had brightened the name of institution in both curriculum and co curriculum activities. She told that the college's administration would provide opportunities to the students to demonstrate their potentialities and earn a good name for the college and Marwat area.
