KARACHI - At least five people were gunned down and three others injured in violence-related incidents here on Sunday.

According to police, at least three unidentified armed riders on two motorbikes opened indiscriminate firing at a hotel located at Hussainabad within the premises of Azizabad Police Station.

Resultantly, five people including four friends namely Imran Karim, Sajid aka Mastana, Naveed Anees, Bilal and a hotel worker Nawaz sustained multiple bullet wounds. Being informed, police rushed to the site and shifted the injured to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. During medical-treatment, Imran Karim, Sajid aka Mastana and Naveed Anees succumbed to injuries.

Police said Imran Karim and Sajid aka Mastana were the expelled MQM workers, who later had joined an extortionist group of Ali Patni. Police believed their accomplices could have been involved in the incident; however further investigation was underway.

Separately, a man was shot dead while another wounded in an armed attack in Orangi Town within the remits of Mominabad Police Station. The police said the victim was identified as Salim, 35, while injured Hanif, 40. They victims were sitting outside their home when the assailants on targeted them over personal enmity.

The body and the injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy and medical treatment.

Separately, Baghdadi police found a bullet-riddled body from Tughlaq Lane, Lyari. The police shifted the body to Civil Hospital Karachi for autopsy and later moved to morgue for identification. The police said that some unidentified assailants, after kidnapping the victim, shot him dead.

Meanwhile, Rangers claimed to have killed two alleged gangsters in an encounter and arrested several others in separate raids.

According to the Rangers spokesman, a raid was conducted on a tip off about the presence of notorious gangsters in Rangiwara, Lyari. As they reached there, the gangsters opened firing to which the Rangers personnel retaliated.

During the exchange of fire, two gangsters were killed while another was arrested.

The spokesman said the gangsters, who belonged to the Mullah Nisar Group of Lyari, were identified as Aziz aka Chwani and Zakir aka David. He said the gangsters were involved in various cases including kidnapping for ransom, murders and extortion. He further claimed to have recovered weapons from the site. The spokesman added that four more notorious gangsters were also arrested in separate targeted raids by Rangers in Musharraf Colony and Lyari, and heavy cache of weapons was also recovered from their possession.
