LAHORE - The Punjab govt has granted approval for uplifting the tourism sector into industry in the province. Under this plan, the tourism sector will be promoted in three steps, a senior official of P&D Depart told. He said concerned provincial institutions had been assigned responsibilities for up gradation of tourism spots while all district governments in the province will act as a facilitator to attract tourists and promote tourism sector. Promotion of religious tourism will be priority, he said adding, Sikhs, Hindus from India and besides followers of Jainmat will also be invited to visit their holy places and to perform their religious activities in a secure and free environment.

The provincial government has decided to assign the task for uplifting the faces of Gurdwaras and Mandars to the Federal Evacuee Trust Property Board and Provincial Archeology Department.

Estimates report regarding their up gradation is being prepared in a speedy manner.

He said a delegation of the provincial tourism department had also visited India recently for holding talks and meetings on affairs of Indo-Pak religious tourism.

The government is committed to provide maximum facilities to Sikhs, Hindus etc for visiting the province, including facilities of food, residence and visas concession, he said.
