Several people were injured after Indian troops and police personnel used brute force on peaceful protesters in Shirmal area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district in Indian Held Kashmir (IHK) on Saturday.
Locals told media that a joint-team of Indian army, police and paramilitary personnel besieged the area and started door-to-door searches early in the morning. People took to the streets and staged demonstrations against the operation.
The police and troops fired pellets and teargas shells to disperse the protesters, triggering clashes between the demonstrators and the forces’ personnel. Several people have sustained injuries during the clashes, which were going on in the area till reports last came in.
