LAHORE    -   The Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Rawalpindi bench on Wednesday suspended the contempt notices issued to former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and his party leader Fawad Chaudhry by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and formed a three-member larger bench to hear the case.

The bench restrained the ECP from passing adverse decisions against Imran Khan and Ch Fawad in matters related to contempt.

“This court has already granted interim relief in the aforesaid (identical) writ petition... therefore, it is directed that the proceedings may continue but no final order shall be passed till the outcome of the writ petition and in the meanwhile, no adverse action shall be taken against the Petitioner under the garb of the impugned notices, till the next date of hearing,” said the seven-page written order issued by Justice Hassan. A similar order was passed regarding Fawad’s petition.

“Once, the learned Attorney General appears on the next date, this Court will examine the jurisprudence developed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of Pakistan in the cases of Muhammad Hanif Abbasi and Dr Raja Aamer Zaman cited above”, the order stated.
