The National Assembly has passed the bill of Nizam-e-Adl Regulation 2009, which has also been duly signed by President Zardari. I would like to ask the government about the status of the defunct TNSM which has achieved this objective by putting pressure on our parliament. TNSM told our parliamentarians that the ones who opposed this bill would be declared non-Muslims and that if they failed to sign on, Pakistan would be declared Dar-ul-Harb (House of War). The ANP has also violated the teachings of their founder Bacha Khan. MQM is the only party that has emerged with some honour by showing commitment to the vision of making Pakistan a democratic and moderate state by boycotting the session. The pioneering spirit of the Pakistan movement, that had manifested itself in the address of Quaid-e-Azam to the First Constituent Assembly of Pakistan on August 17, 1947, has been negated totally. There must be a uniform law in the entire state but what a tragedy Pakistans parliament has passed a bill according to which we will have two separate sets of laws and done so without any discussion. -ANJUM JAMES PAUL, Peshawar, via e-mail, April 14.
