ISLAMABAD - The Members of National Assembly have demanded of the government to revisit peace agreement with Taliban in Swat and at the same time review its role in the American led so-called war on terror. While debating on Presidents address to joint sitting of the Parliament, they said that the government should ensure implementation of the recommendations of Parliamentary Committee on National Security. The members also demanded of the government to review its foreign policy in the light of recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee. They also called for holding a conference of all political and religious parties and other stakeholders to mull over pulling the country out of the prevalent crises and curb terrorism. Jamiat Ulma-e-Islam (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said while participating in the debate that the Parliamentary committee on National Security had given its recommendations to the government to pull thhe country out of the crises. He said that the foreign policy of the country was changed under pressure of the US. We have to transform our policy in the national interest if we want to save the country, he said. The US President has given statement that they could not win the war on terror, then how we could win it? he asked. He said that the writ of government had been put to an end in Swat as well as in the entire NWFP due to military operation. He said that activities of Taliban had reached in Hazara, Mansehra and Tarbela. If they moved forward, the distance would become shorter and only Margala Hill would remain between them and Islamabad, he said. In this regard, our military leadership is showing ignorance, he claimed. He said that the government and the Foreign Minister should accept responsibility and take up seriously the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee. He said that Pakistan should not be a part of the so-called war on terror. We are wasting our energy for completing the agenda of others. We are giving much importance to the Charter of Democry (CoD) than the Constitution of the country, he said. If we do not make legislation on the recommendations of Council of Islamic Ideology and block this way, then religious people would raise their guns, he said. About drone attacks, he said that the attacks were against the integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan. Khawaja Muhmad Asif of PML-N said that his party supported Nizam-e-Adl Regulation for peace in Swat. But now the activities of Taliban were being expanded from Swat. He said that the country was facing extremism and terrorism due to wrong policy of General Pervez Musharraf. He stressed on holding All Parties Conference including all stakeholders to address the issues of the country. He said, Our political leadership should not ignore the issues, which are very serious for the country. Chief PPP-S, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao demanded of the government to ensure implementation of the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security. He also demanded from the government to set up a special commission for the rehabilitation of the Internally Displaced Persons. The local elders should also be made part of this commission, he added. He said that the country was passing through very critical times and every citizen of Pakistan was feeling a sense of insecurity due to increasing terrorism and extremism in every nook and corner of the country. The entire tribal region has become No Go Area and there are several Parliamentarians who did not visit their respective constituencies as yet, he lamented, adding that the government had totally failed to establish its writ in any part of FATA region. Aftab Ahmad Sherpao said that entire Malakand Division was in the control of Taliban. The situation in Kohat, Hangu and Peshawar valley was also getting from bad to worse, he maintained. The incidents of kidnapping for ransom and murder have become order of the day while Pakhtoons were being killed by drone attacks, he protested.
