LAHORE Aisam and Filip Polasek of Slovakia had to dig themselves out of a deep pit to bring home a well-deserved win over local favourite, an All Spanish pair of Alberto Martin and Fernando Vicente, in the opening round of the prestigious ATP Barcelona Tennis Championship which is being played on the Clay Courts of Real Club De Tennis Barcelona. Just as expected, the clay court specialist Spanish pair were fully pumped up right from the word 'Go and broke Polaseks serve in the third game of the first set when the Slovakian was break point down after hitting two consecutive double faults. This advantage was soon taken back from the Spaniards when Aisam and partner secured the first break point opportunity against their opponents in the fourth game. Polasek missed two crucial easy volleys in the ninth game to give away yet another serve break to Albert and Fernando who thereafter made no mistake in closing the set at 6-4. In the second set, the Spaniards were up 0-40 on Polaseks very first service game but the Pak-Slovak pair fought back tremendously to take next four points to save their serve. The Spaniards kept on building pressure on Aisam and Polasek and managed to set up break points in every game but were successfully denied every opportunity. Aisams very effective and crisp volleys started to show results and twice they not only managed to set up break points but also availed the same to have break advantages. Aisam and Filip not only saved nine break points in the second set but also made no mistakes on both the break points which came their way and were able to win the second set with a 6-2 score. Having saved nine break points and won the second set, the momentum visibly changed in favour of the foreigners who despite an up and down maintained their lead in the super tie break to eventually win it 10-8. In the pre-quarter final, now they will be up against second seeds of the tournament as well as currently world no 2 pair (former no 1) of Bryan Brothers of America.
