LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that transparent utilisation of development funds is a national responsibility therefore corruption-free culture has been promoted in the province. He said that the era of looting and plundering the public wealth is over and no one will be allowed to violate the rights of the masses. He said that timely completion of uplift projects is being ensured and their standard can be compared with that of developed countries. He was addressing a high level meeting held to review the pace of implementation of Lahore Ring Road Project, here Thursday. Chairman Planning & Development, Secretary Communication & Works, Director General Punjab Horticulture Authority, representatives of National Logistic Cell and NESPAK as well as officers concerned were present in the meeting. The Chief Minister said that infrastructure is of vital importance for the development of a country therefore a network of roads, bridges and flyovers is being developed in the province. He said that all out resources are being utilized for the welfare of masses and timely completion of development projects is being ensured for the benefit of the people. He said that Lahore Ring Road project was initiated by Muhammad Nawaz Sharif but after the toppling of the democratic government this project was shelved, however, billions of rupees were minted through property business under this project. He said that loot and plunder on the pretext of development projects was rampant in the tenure of the former government and not a single project was completed within timeframe during this period due to which the present government is bearing huge additional expenses. He further said that another important project, Lahore Kasur Road was also delayed due to corruption and criminal negligence but the present government is endeavoring for early completion of this project. He said that corruption-free culture has been revived after ten years and development projects are being completed in a transparent manner. He said that the third-party audit policy is being strictly implemented for ensuring proper utilisation of every penny of development funds. The CM said that Madr-e-Millat and Shaukat Ali Road, Sagian and Shalimar Interchange, Lahore Ring Road Package 6, 7 & 9 are masterpieces of construction work and besides provision of modern communication facilities these projects will also result in a positive impact on the development process. He said that horticulture is being promoted in development projects while in addition to maximum tree plantation and landscapes are also being developed for providing a better atmosphere to the people. He said that PHA has an army of gardeners and the government is bearing huge expenses of their salaries. He said that services of the gardeners of PHA should be availed for maximum tree plantation in the province. He also issued instructions of evolving a master plan of horticulture on Lahore Ring Road Project. He said that after completion of northern loop of Lahore Ring Road, the people will use this passage during rush hours therefore, steps should be taken for road safety besides construction of bridges and erecting of fences to ward off the possibility of any unpleasant incident. He appreciated the efforts of Sector Incharge NLC Brig Shahid Majeed and said that he had set a high standard of development projects ten years ago and is showing even better performance now. He said that NESPAK has improved its performance and is monitoring development projects in an effective manner. He said that he will pay visit different portions of Lahore Ring Road to review the pace of work and should be given a detailed briefing during his visit. Earlier, Project Director and Commissioner Lahore Khusro Parvaiz Khan and Sector Incharge NLC Brig Shahid Majeed apprised the Chief Minister of the pace of work on various sections of Lahore Ring Road project.
