LAHORE Holders KRL and KESC recorded their second consecutive wins to reach quarter-finals of the 20th NBP National Football Challenge Cup (NFCC) at Multans Qila Kuhna Qasim Bagh on Wednesday night under flood-lit system. In final match of Group-D, NBP had worked hard to beat DFA Multan 3-2 after 0-2 down at recess. The hero for KESC was two-times gold medallist of SA Games Muhammad Essa who managed to score four goals in 8-0 win over first timers Ashraf Sugar Mills of Bahawalpur in Group-C. He struck his all four goals in the first session to join Arif Mehmood (WAPDA) and Kalim Ullah Khan (KRL) as hat-trick makers of the show. Essa completed hat-trick within 27-minutes, banging into the net in the 6th, 20th and 33rd minute and later on added his fourth in the 42nd minute. In-fact, it was Essa 4 Ashraf 0 at interval. KESC also held upperhand throughout the second session and added four more, all of them through international players. Asia Cup midfielder Abdul Ghafoor made it 5-0 in the 51st minute and then came the brilliant scoring power of Chitral-born Muhammad Rasool, a hero in double Olympic win over Singapore three years ago, who hit the target in the 53rd and 70th minute. Central defender Akber Ali, who played for Pakistan U-23 team in Athens Olympic qualifiers, also inducted his name in scorer list with 66th minute goal. It was KESCs another huge win after 4-1 win over HBL on April 19. KRL booked last eight seat with narrow 1-0 win over tenacious HBL in same group. The banks keeper Muhammad Sajid played brilliantly but he failed to block Kalim Ullahs 34th minute drive which turned out to be the lone goal as KRL edged out HBL 1-0. It was Kalims fourth goal of the event. NBP suffered agony before beating Multan 3-2. The host surged ahead through Jehangir Khan in the 37th minute while Akber added another in the 42nd minute as Multan led 2-0 at interval. NBP staged recovery in second session and turned the tide with three goals within 24 minute, scoring through Faisal Iqbal 53 and Adam Hameed 74, 77.
