LAHORE - Information Communication Technologies (ICT) should be effectively used for transfer of agricultural technology to farmers for achieving breakthrough in corps yields. Minister for Agriculture Punjab Malik Ahmed Ali Aulakh stated this while chairing a meeting regarding use of ICT in agriculture held here at Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB). Chief Executive PARB, Direct General Agriculture (Extension), Director General Agriculture (Field), Director General Agriculture (Water Management), Director General Agriculture (Pest Warning), Director Agricultural Information, Director Floriculture, Director Crop Reporting Services and M.D Punjab Seed Corporation were also present on this occasion. While highlighting details of proposed project for use of ICT in agriculture, Dr Waqar Ahmed Director Alkhawarzme Institute of Computer Science, UET, Lahore stressed for extensive use of ICT in agriculture for performance monitoring, farmers education and training to achieve fast track communication for transfer of agricultural technology to the farming community. He said that mobile messaging for information dissemination in agriculture may prove effective to educate growers about latest cropping techniques. He proposed blending of domain knowledge with technology to enhance effectiveness and efficiency for sustainable agriculture in Punjab province.
