OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Justice Manzoor Malik of the Lahore High Court on Friday granted bail to four accused in a case of alleged illegal purchase of 20-kanal land for National Insurance Company Limited (NICL). The accused included Athar Ali Naqvi, Muhammad Zahoor Ahmad, Zahid Hussain and Naveed Ahsan, whom the court allowed bail subject to furnishing bail bonds to the tune of Rs one million each. The judge after hearing counsel for FIA as well as for the accused persons, observed that the accused were not the members Board of Directors of the Company and played no role in making decisions regarding sale or purchase of the land in question. The accused Athar, Zahoor and Zahid had already been granted bail in another case regarding 803-kanal land of NICL. According to the prosecution accused Habibullah Warraich his son Mohsin Warraich, Muhammad Maalick, manager of a company owned by MPA Ch Moonis Elahi, were accused of misappropriating NICLs funds on account of land purchase. Moshin Warraich alone has been charged for corruption worth Rs1.68 billion. Mohsin and Moonis had escaped abroad after FIA started investigation against them. Later Moonis Elahi returned to country and surrendered to FIA.
