ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Friday gave one week time to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials to complete the investigation of Haj corruption case. The SC Bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing of the Haj corruption case on Friday. The chief justice lamenting on the frequent changes in the top brass of the FIA officials by the government, said that due to continues transferring of the FIA officials the Haj corruption case investigation did not make progress. Only Rs40 million could be recovered out of Rs460 million embezzled money, the CJP said. Justice Iftikhar said that the investigation process had been ruined by transfers of the FIA officials. An official, who shows some progress, is transferred, the CJP remarked. In this situation, he said, only one option was left that the investigation of Haj scam should be handed over to the interior secretary. The CJP said that out of Rs 460 million embezzled money, only Rs40 million could be recovered and that also with the assistance of a neighbouring country. He gave one week to the FIA director general to complete the investigations of the case. During the hearing, Justice Javed Iqbal said that no instructions had been issued to harass the journalists who had performed Haj on the government expenses.
