ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that government was engaged in negotiations with a number of foreign companies interested in investment in power sector and hoped that in due course of time government would be able to bridge demand and supply gap in the power. Talking to Federal Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar who called on him at Prime Ministers House on Friday afternoon, Premier Gilani said that increase in the energy demand was manifestation of the increased economic activities in the country. The Prime Minister asked the Minister to devise methods to explore alternate energy sources to meet the future energy needs. He stressed the need to consult respective organisations of the developed countries to share their experience. He asked the Minister to formulate policies to augment public private partnership and improved investment in energy sector. Prime Minister asked the Minister to take all stakeholders on board to finalise load management plan for this summer. Referring to the compensation money to be paid to the affectees in Diamir-Bhasha area, he asked the Minister to look into the matter and solve the issue amicably in consultation with all the stakeholders from Chillas and Diamir. Syed Naveed Qamar apprised the Prime Minister about various projects initiated by the Ministry. He also discussed with him the on-going schemes of his constituency. Meanwhile, talking to MNA Ms Faryal Talpur Premier Gilani said that women being more than half the population of the country should actively participate in the national development. Reiterating the commitment of the Government to take measures for the empowerment and emancipation of the women, the Prime Minister said that performance of women, inside and outside the Parliament has been very encouraging after the laws enacted by the Parliament for their protection at work place. The Prime Minister asked Ms Faryal to formulate schemes in consultation with other women parliamentarians to empower the women at local levels in their respective constituencies. Ms Faryal apprised the Prime Minister of various ongoing development schemes in her constituency. She also discussed with him matters pertaining to the party.
