OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE The Lahore High Court Friday extended a strict warning to the police against acting above the law. Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik, on Thursday, in a case hearing against the illegal custody of one Hafiz Ahsan Ullah observed that the police could no way be allowed to kill the people at will and whim. The social fabric would ruin if that is allowed to happen, the court remarked in the presence of CCPO Lahore Aslam Tarin who was called on SOS after SP CIA Umar Virk denied custody of Hafiz, for the security of his life against an expected fake police encounter, the instant petition was moved. The court found the statement of the SP as per its expectation and remarked, the court did not side with the criminals and the offenders but the law has to determine them as such therefore everyone must be subject to the authority of law and not of personal choices. On the petition filed by Shumaila, spouse of the alleged detainee, the court directed the CCPO to recover the latter and produce him on April 25. The petitioner alleged the CIA police of keeping Hafiz in illegal detention over the last many days and that apprehensions of his being killed in fake police encounter loomed large.
