Bilour for media role to defeat militancy

PESHAWAR - In order to encourage the children of journalist community in the field of education, Khyber Union of Journalists arranged a ceremony in which the students who topped their classes were awarded cash prizes and gifts.Those who sponsored the programme included Khyber Union of Journalist, Bank of Khyber ICMS, Brains Colleges Group and PEI.  Senior Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour, Director Brain College Zafarullah, General Secretary KhUJ Ali Hazrat Bacha and former MPA Zakirullah were present on the occasion. During the ceremony around 45 students were awarded cash prizes and gifts while cash prizes of Rs 3000, Rs 6000 and Rs 10000 were given to the successful students and position holders. Addressing the event, President KhUJ Arshad Aziz Malik said this kind of activities encouraged students to acquire education. He said they would also organise such programmes for children in future as well.  APP adds: KPK, Senior Minister, Bashir Ahmed Bilour on Sunday underlined the need for constructive and positive journalism to defeat the menace of terrorism and militancy besides addressing issues of illiteracy and ignorance from the society.“The journalists can play a vital role in elimination of terrorism, militancy, illiteracy and other social issues by consistent writing and telecasting reports depicting the negative effects of these scourges.” He was addressing the cash prize distribution ceremony of position holder children of journalists held under the auspices of Khyber Union of Journalists Program at press club. He said the government gave paramount importance to education sector and established five universities and eight campuses in the last four years in the province.He said special scholarship programme - “Stars of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa” was launched to encourage talented students to continue their studies without facing financial constraints. He said monthly scholarships were being given to position holders of all Matric examination of the respective boards of the province. Vocational training and soft loans schemes for artisans and other skillful youth were launched under the “Bacha Khan Self-employment and Vocational Schemes” to enable them to stand on their feet.Meanwhile, a local tribal man got electrocuted while repairing a power transformer here in Kam-Shelman, the remote area of tehsil Landi Kotal, local sources said the other day. They said that last noon one, Sakhi Jan, son of Sher Hasan, 55, was repairing electricity transformer when unintentionally touched a live wire of 11000-KV line. He received severe electric shocks and got unconscious. He was rushed to Landi Kotal hospital where the on duty doctors declared him dead after thorough examination.Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar has congratulated the newly elected cabinet of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association.In his message of felicitation sent in the name of the newly elected President of the Bar, Mr Latif Afridi Advocate on Sunday, the governor while felicitating him and his colleague has said that their success speaks the magnitude of confidence which their electorates have expressed in their leadership qualities which indeed is a great honour.  The election, he added, will indeed prove another success of the apex body of lawyers in province towards promotion of constructive norms in the society.  Barrister Masood Kausar has also wished complete success to the newly elected cabinet of the Peshawar High Court Bar towards promotion of the profession; efficient contribution in dispensation of justice to people and coming upto expectations of the electorates in this respect as well.
