KHANEWAL - District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Khanewal’s Cardiac Ward is running short of doctors, paramedical staff, and free medicines are not being provided with the patients, it is learnt

The hospital is functional without anaesthetist  and physiotherapist since long and free medicines are not available in the emergency and other wards, patients are facing problems due to unavailability of anaesthesia doctor as surgeries are not being carried without the specialized anaesthetist doctor in the DHQ hospital.

The posts have been lying vacant since the death of Dr Wajahat, who was  the last specialist anaesthetist. The district administration and the executive district officer (health) have not taken any serious notice of this issue.

However, with the sincere efforts DO Dr Amanullah Khan, a cardiac ward has been established in the DHQ Hospital for the people of the area. Many heart patient have expired in their way to the Nishter/PIC Hospital Multan without treatment. But, due to no further funding, equipment, special beds for heart patients, junior doctors and paramedical staff, the ward is unable to meet the requirement of heart patient.

Dr Amanullah said that he was running the ward within the limits and available facilities. If the hospital administration provided him with the required facilities and staff, the ward would become a mini hospital of heart, and then no one will have to go to Multan or Lahore for cardiac treatment, he said.

Similarly, the post of physiotherapist has also been lying vacant for the last three years and no physiotherapy equipment, like complex exercising unit, exercise chair, Multi Exercise Therapy Unit are available in one of the main hospital of the Khanewal district, he said.

The hospital also lacks a pharmacy for the emergency, outdoor and indoor patient. Patients visit the DHQ hospital to get free treatment but nothing is available in the hospital for the poor patients.

Medical superintend Dr Muhammad Ashraf, while giving his version, confirmed that there was about 13 medical officers and 10 specialized doctors and seats of anaesthetist and physiotherapist doctors are vacant.

He further said that in emergency, we call Dr Sarwar Goriya, an anaesthetist, from Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Jahanian but now-a-days he is not available due to his accident. He said that he had informed Executive District Officer (Health) Dr Afzal Bashir and the DCO of the situation.
