People asked to rescue Mother Earth


LAHORE - The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue-1122) celebrated “Rescue Mother Earth” on Sunday at all central Rescue Stations across the Punjab.
The rescue 1122 spokesman said the initiative aims at making join efforts to make safe communities to tackle with climate change and to safer Mother Earth by creating awareness amongst the general public about the impact of environmental pollution due to excessive energy consumption which is making this Mother Earth polluted and perilous. The Central “Rescue Mother Earth” walk started from Shadman Chowk, Jail Road, where the Volunteer Club of Punjab Group of Colleges, Punjab University, LUMS University, FC College, Ufone, Girls Guide Association, Civil Society, Rescue Volunteers, Government and other institutions also participated in the walk. They raised slogan “Rescue the Mother Earth” to create awareness amongst general public to safe and clean this Mother Land. 
The Rescue 1122 DG said that community participation in earth awareness walk was the symbol of ownership by the community and if joint efforts are not made on priority basis by the general public, media and corporate sector to “Rescue the Mother Earth”, the community shall be victimised of such environmental emergencies in the coming years. He appreciated rescuers and volunteers from different organisation for organising this “earth walk” to sensitise general public through seminars, pledge forms, plantation and extra circular activities to build safer communities by adopting preventing measure and green culture in Pakistan. He said that Rescue 1122 welcomes community volunteers to come and join hands with the emergency service for safer Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Environment Protection Department Punjab has held a walk from Liberty Chowk to Main Market Gulberg on Sunday to mark World Earth Day. Senior officers, staff, students, NGOs representatives and people from different walks of life participated in walk. 
The purpose of this walk was to create awareness among citizens about issues pertaining to the earth, dangers of environmental degradation, pollution and extinction of greenery.
The participants were carrying placards and banners inscribed with messages about cleanliness and citizen’s role in maintaining it. The participants also raised slogans in favor of a cleaner Lahore.
A camp was also set up at Main Market Gulberg where large number people representing different organisations came to become a part of EPD’s awareness move.
