KARACHI – Tension simmered in Orangi Town after the murder of a Pakistan Sunni Tehreek (PST) activist in Yaqoobabad area on Sunday.

Identified as 32-year-old Shamshad, son of Noor Alam, the victim was sitting near Jamia Mosque Waqarul Ilm when a bike-borne armed duo appeared on the scene and opened fire on him. Shamshad received three bullets and was ferried to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

DSP Tariq Malik said the victim, an active worker of the PST, used to live in the area where he was attacked. He said the victim was working for an embroidery shop in Orangi Town. His elder brother was a worker of the MQM.

Soon after the incident, tension engulfed in several areas of Orangi, including Yaqoobabad, Gulshan Zia, Toori Bangash and Raees Amrohi Colony, where unidentified men went on shooting sprees, paralysing commercial activities and routine life. A heavy contingent of police was deployed in the area to avoid any further untoward happening. No case was registered till the filing of this report.
